As part of their community outreach initiative, Eging Translation operate an internship and work experience programme, aimed at improving skills and business knowledge amongst student and young people.

In March 2017, two non-native English-speaking students, Joao and Carla, from Oldham College completed work experience in the Sales team at Eging Translation. Below is their account of their experience.

Joao Fontainhas

In March of 2017, I had the opportunity of work experience at Eging Translation in Oldham. After some research, I discovered that Eging Translation is part of Capita plc, the largest business process outsourcing and professional services company in the UK, which made me even more enthusiastic to start my work experience.

Mandy, the Public Sector Marketing Manager, introduced me to all teams in the building and guided me to the Sales Department, where I would be completing my tasks. Working as a team along with Jack, Simona and Suzan, my task was to prepare list of companies with contact details for one of the Sales team to get in touch with them, regarding translation requirements.

As a student, I was completely sure I would enjoy this experience due to the passion I have for business. However, it turned out to be even better – I felt professional! I believe that is also the main lesson I took from my time at Eging Translation: how to be professional!

What’s more, it was my first experience in a full-time job, which made it even more significant.

In the future, I would like to have my own business, and everything that I have gained from this experience at Eging Translation will surely help me to follow my path.

Carla Fernanda Manuel Golome

I’m a ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Vocational student from Oldham College. The Headteacher Matthew Corbett, provided me with a work placement at a prestigious company, Capita Translation and interpreting.

The experience was 1 week long but the skills that I gained will definitely last much longer. I worked in the Sales department, where I met the Sales Manager Tom Moran and the rest of the team. Tom was responsible for all the tasks that I completed.

My responsibilities were around various administrative tasks, cleansing data and supporting the sales team.

I had an enjoyable time, and learnt numerous skills such as keyboard skills, time management, interpersonal skills and communication skills.

I took advantage of everything and saw every single task as an opportunity to add a skill to my CV.

I am very thankful for the opportunity, I really enjoyed every single minute at the company. All of the Capita team members were kind, always willing to help and made me feel as part of the team!
