Why You’ll Always Win with Website Translation

4 Points you score with translation and localization services

As a Translation company, we’ve often talked about the importance of translating and localizing content.  Today, we’d like to revisit this discussion by starting with recent language developments of a popular channel – the Olympic Channel!

Since February 15th, Olympics fans have had the option to access content on the Olympic Channel in one of the following 6 languages (other than English)- Chinese, French, German, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, and Latin American Spanish.  Moreover, fans can enjoy original programming with subtitles translated into any of 10 languages; a feature that has been available since the channel’s launch on August 2016.  The Olympic Channel plans on adding four additional languages soon- Arabic, Japanese, Korean, and Russian.

Why this priority on translation and localization?

“This is a great way to reach more people around the world and to tell the great Olympic stories in a way that connects directly to them”, says the President of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach.   Additionally, the General Manager of the Olympic Channel, Mark Parkman, states that having the translation of its platform into 6 additional languages helps “create more personalized user experiences for Olympic fans around the world”.

Your brand and business can also achieve these attainable global goals.  It does not matter if you are not a ‘super famous’ name like the Olympics- whether your brand is small, medium or growing, you’ll always win with a quality translation and localization of your content.  Here are just a few – but big! – points you score by translating your web content-

1- You offer personalized user experience.  This is straight from Mark Parkman, mentioned above, but personalization is increasing dramatically in priority for both marketers and customers.  And, with 70% of internet users using languages other than English online, offering them a personalized experience really begins by making sure your website and content is accessible to them in their native language.

Have you thought about which languages you could translate your website into?  Here are a few of the most commonly used languages online by number of internet users –

Chinese language 751,985,224

Spanish language 277,125,947

Arabic language 168,426,690

Portuguese language 154,525,606

Imagine being able to reach up to 100 million more internet users by translating your website from English to Arabic, or from English to Portuguese

2- You reach new audiences locally.  Due to immigration, the U.S. region you operate in is certain to have residents who are native speakers of languages other than English.  By using website translation and localization, you could find yourself attracting a larger portion of your local audience than you thought you could!  Determining which language translation you should use will require some research on your part depending on your location, product and services.  Here is some information we found, for a few of our own locations:

Common languages other than English spoken in-

Chicago include- Spanish, Polish, Chinese

Los Angeles include- Spanish, Chinese, Tagalog

Boston include- Spanish, Chinese, French or Haitian Creole

Dallas include- Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese

3- You get more potential customers to stay on your website longer and therefore they are more likely to buy!   In a survey conducted by Common Sense Advisory, over half of Chinese customer groups surveyed stated that they spent less time on English language websites than they did on websites in their native language.  Further, 49% of Chinese respondents indicated that they rarely or never purchased from English language sites.  This is a significant finding due to the large number of internet users who are Chinese language speakers (the 2nd largest online, next to English language speakers!).

By translating and localizing your website from English to Chinese, you establish a strong, positive impression on this powerful market that will not only be more likely to purchase from you, but also come back to your website for future needs!  The same is true when you translate a website from English to other languages.

4- You foster customer loyalty worldwide- which leads to a strong company reputation!  A high quality website translation and localization job not only shows that your company is staying up to date with demographic shifts, it also shows loud and clear that you care about your audience- especially those who are actively looking for services or products like yours who prefer to read in their native language.

Win new Audience and customers with Website Translation

Global and local audiences are looking for services and products; if you have your website in their language they will find your company and will be more inclined to buy from you. But, they will only find you if your website content is accessible to them in the language they use to search online. Additionally, your customers will feel more comfortable while connecting to your brand.  Like the Olympics Channel, you too can reach more people around the world, Eging Translation services is here to help you do just that.
