The national dress for Omani men is called Dishdasha, which is a collarless gown flowing down to the ankles: it usually comes in brown, white, or other neutral colours. The Khanjar (or curved dagger) is a symbol of elegance for the men of Omani and is only worn during ceremonial celebrations. The women of Oman traditionally wear a headdress (Lihaf) and wear their dress over trousers (Sirwa). In contrast to the men’s rather plain colours, women’s fashion is bright and pretty, and varies a lot from region to region. Make-up and jewellery are commonly worn.
