The world of professional language services is a competitive arena. All of those who work in this field could not be more aware of this. A simple Google search of “Translation Provider” will highlight numerous companies, all claiming to be the premiere provider for all things localisation, but can you be sure that you are being advised properly?

Looking back to this time 12 months ago, I had come into language services from a completely different sector, and it quickly became apparent, through rigorous training sessions and information correspondence, that there is “more than one way to skin a cat”, as the saying goes.

The message here is that, while you may have a requirement, are you sure you are being offered the correct service, or are there alternatives available?

Just this week, the Business Development Team here at Eging TI was asked to attend a session from our technical lead on the area of Website Translation Proxy solutions. The session was aimed at reinforcing the idea that, when looking at the area of website localisation, there are a number of options available.

A proxy, (or mirror) of a company’s website can be hosted by Eging, which encompasses real time translations to desired languages through interaction with a hosted server.

This solution could be ideal for SMEs who wish to delve into international markets, but do not wish to incur the costs of setting up a whole new website for each target country. Couple that with options such as multi-lingual SEO and it becomes clear that there are a number of options available.

In similar sessions we were reminded of Machine Translation as an alternative to the traditional linguist method, and the caveats that go with it. Telephone Interpretingvs Face to Face Interpreting, Transcreation vs Localisation…..the list goes on and on. One of the most important aspects of being a BDM at Eging TI is to fully understand the person or company we are engaged with. In ascertaining the reasons behind the requirement, and the goals of the customer, we are able to decipher any underlying obstacles and offer advice on best practice rather than engage in transactional selling.
