International Medical Interpreters Association and Northern California Translators Association to co-organize Medical Terminology Boot Camp in San Francisco.

The one day (eight-hour) non-language-specific workshop will provide an in-depth review of basic medical terminology for medical interpreters and translators.

The Northern California Translators Association (NCTA) and the International Medical Interpreters Association (IMIA) will co-organize a Medical Terminology Boot Camp in San Francisco, CA on June 30, 2012.

The workshop, which is being advertised as a must for all medical interpreters and translators, will offer a review of basic medical terminology. Participants will acquire the essential knowledge of the basic components of medical terminology. Anatomy (structure), physiology (function), and pathology (diseases and disorders), will be discussed.

The session will establish a supporting knowledge that will encourage more independent and active learning. This will be an interactive class. During the session’s activities, the class will be divided into groups to work together and practice.

Participants will be required to bring dictionaries and a notepad. The session will be language neutral and will not address the translation of terms, but rather the meaning of the terminology in English.

The workshop will be held at 835 Market Street, Room 664 (6th floor) San Francisco, CA 94103.

Registration is scheduled for 8am to 9am and the workshop will run from 9am to 1pm and from 1:45pm to 6pm.
